Mit (Un)traditional Irish fing alles an - nun legt die Kölner Band The Children Of Lir einen neuen Longplayer vor, der sich auf das Motto der frühen Tage nicht mehr einfach so reduzieren lässt.

Das musikalische Bild wird nun mehr und mehr geprägt von folkigen, poppigen, atmosphärischen oder psychedelischen Eigenkompositionen aller Bandmitglieder, die sich ob ihrer unterschiedlichen Einflüsse recht schwer in eine Schublade stecken lassen: geblieben ist die eigenwillige Vielfältigkeit, mit der die neuen Songs interpretiert werden, wobei die Erweiterung des Instrumentariums - bisher bestehend aus grundsoliden Gitarren, Fiddle, Bodhrán, Cajon und Didgeridoo - um Tastensounds von Piano, Rhodes oder Jazzorgel der dieser facettenreichen Band eigenen Experimentierfreude absolut zugute kommt.

Einen filigranen Bogen zur trotzdem stets vorhandenen Affinität zu Irland und seinen Künstlern schlagen u.a. Vertonungen von ausgewählten Gedichten des Poeten W.B. Yeats sowie ein eindrucksvolles Gastspiel des Vollblutmusikers und Gründungsmitglieds der Hothouse Flowers, Liam Ó Maonlaí.

It all began with "(Un)traditional Irish" - now the Cologne-based band The Children Of Lir present their new album which cannot so easily be reduced to the motto of their early days.

The musical pattern is being more and more embossed by folky, poppy, atmospheric or even psychedelic original compositions of all band members which, because of their varied influences, are quite hard to be pigeonholed. Over the course of five years since their previous release "This Is The Story", the willful diversity the new songs are being interpreted with has remained, whereas the original range of instruments - consisting of guitars, fiddle, bodhrán, cajon and the occasional didgeridoo - has now been expanded by key sounds of grand piano, Rhodes or jazz organ which benefits the band's distinct love of experimentation.

Despite now striking a rather new path in music, yet scorings of selected poems by W.B. Yeats as well as impressive guest performances by musician and founding member of Hothouse Flowers, Liam Ó Maonlaí, draw a delicate bow to the ever existing love of Ireland and its artists.
